Sleeve Notes

The last few years have seen the development of Hamish Imlach as Scotland's leading folk entertainer, or. as one wit put it, "Scotland's greatest all round entertainer". This is perhaps strange, in that Hamish was born in Calcutta and brought up in Darjeeling, moved in 1948 to Brisbane and came to Scotland early in 1953. It wasn't long however before Hamish became one of the most popular figures on the club circuit in Scotland and a considerable number of radio. TV. concert and cabaret appearances firmly established him at the top of the tree.

Hamish's LPs showing a steady development from a traditional folk style to something more akin to that of a music hall entertainer, have been best sellers on Transatlantic's XTRA label. The LPs are XTRA 1039. Hamish Imlach: XTRA 1050 Hamish Imlach Live: XTRA 1059 Before & After and XTRA 1069 Both Sides Of Hamish Imlach.

On this special sampler, Hamish is heard on some of the favourite tracks from the aforementioned LPs and from his EP, TRA EP 156, and the wide selection of material is an impressive tribute to his versatility.
