Notes

Nick Keir takes time out from the McCalmans to produce a though-provoking album of self-penned songs. Much of the material has Edinburgh as its backdrop, and the lyrics have a keen sense of place, of history and sometimes of magic. Nick is joined by ex Finn mac Cuill colleague Madelaine Taylor on backing vocals, John Martin (Tannahill Weavers) on fiddle and viola, Martin Talbot (Kiss of the Gypsy) on Bass, trumpeter Victor Poots, Susie Malcolm and the late Derek Moffat.

Notes

Nick Keir is a fine singer songwriter and instrumentalist who is perhaps better known for his work with Scottish folk band The McCalmans. On this CD he ably demonstrates his considerable talents with a collection featuring mainly his own songs. Nick writes, "it represents 30 years in the business, from Finn mac Cuill via 7:84 Theatre to 22 years in the McCalmans. I've always written songs with a strong sense of place, which reveal my feelings for Scotland with all its glories and imperfections. While I love to write songs about Scotland's history, I've now incorporated modern songs on " All Over This Town" that address contemporary issues and emotions but have their roots firmly in Scotland".

Notes

Scottish singer-songwriter, recorded in Edinburgh and Copenhagen. Third solo CD from one of Scotland's most accomplished and individual songwriters, with influences and arrangements drawn from the Scottish tradition, classical string music, Americana and Klezmer.

Reflecting Nick's wide range of musical interests, his song writing is varied, confident and contemplative. With strong melodies and perceptive lyrics this is his best album yet.
